Houston, Texas – By way of 14 million dollars in federal funding included in the economic recovery plan, The City of Houston, and District D are putting our youth back to work. In these difficult economic times several businesses within our district that, year by year, employ our youth and occupy their time during summer months, have unfortunately shut their doors. Money has been allocated to Workforce Solutions who hope to fill nearly 4500 summer job opportunities. Of those 4500 opportunities over 600 will be attributed to The City of Houston and hopefully filled with constituents in District D. As the end of the school year draws near adolescents and young adults between the ages of 14-24 will have various opportunities available to them within this program, these advantages include:
• $2300 or more earning potential
• 30-35 hrs of weekly work, for 8-12 weeks
• Free job training, career development, recreational assistance
• An active role in the beautification of Houston
• Working with various city departments
• Working with the Mayor’s Youth Conservation
